“Good Morning America” fave Sam Champion is leaving the top-rated morning show behind.
Champion, who announced his engagement to now-husband Rubem Robierb on the show last fall, is trading ABC for the Weather Channel after seven years on “GMA,” according to Deadline.
In his place, Ginger Zee will take over as the meteorologist for both the morning program and elsewhere on the Alphabet network.
“While there is no replacing Sam, we are in excellent hands with his storm chasing partner of the last few years, meteorologist Ginger Zee, who will take over his weather responsibilities at ‘GMA’ and across ABC News.”
For its part, “GMA’ has been the no. 1 morning program for the past several quarters, toppling “Today” after the much-ballyhooed departure of Ann Curry in 2012.
Notably, a number of other members of the “GMA” team are up for contract negotiations, including Robin Roberts, Lara Spencer and Josh Elliott.
