Actor Paul Walker died tragically in a car crash on Saturday afternoon.

According to TMZ, Walker, 40, “was in a Porsche when the driver somehow lost control and slammed into a post or a tree… and then the car burst into flames.”

A rep for the star confirmed the news on his official Facebook page, writing:

"It is with a truly heavy heart that we must confirm that Paul Walker passed away today in a tragic car accident while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives."

He is survived by his daughter, Meadow Rain, who turned fifteen earlier in November.

The actor is best known for his role as Brian O’Conner in the “Fast & Furious” film franchise. The next installment, “Fast & Furious 7,” was set for release next summer, though it’s unclear if the actor’s death will impact production.

His next film, a thriller titled "Hours," is scheduled for a December 13 release.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
