Though Mia Wasikowska’s Alice tackled the dreaded Jabberwocky in 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland,” she’ll have more deadly foes to face when she and the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) return in the sequel.
According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” “Alice in Wonderland 2” will hit theaters on Memorial Day 2016, with both stars on board to return.
It’s unclear which other cast members from the original will reprise their roles for the sequel, though director Tim Burton will not helm the project.
Instead, the film will be directed by James Bobin, who directed the two most recent Muppets features, including 2014’s “Muppets Most Wanted.”
The sequel news comes as no surprise, as the Disney picture garnered more than $1 billion dollars upon its release.
Disney also announced the production of a live-action “Jungle Book” adaptation directed by Jon Favreau. The film will debut on October 9, 2015.
