Though a “Bridesmaids” sequel seems unlikely, the movie’s director, Paul Feig, is planning a companion piece to his latest hit, this summer’s blockbuster “The Heat.”
Deadline reports that Feig is working on a spinoff film starring Jamie Denbo and Jessica Chaffin, who played Beth and Gina, the girlfriends of Melissa McCarthy’s brothers.
“Jamie and Jessica are two of the funniest people on this planet,” he said in a statement (via Deadline). “They took small roles in ‘The Heat’ and turned them into characters worthy of their own movie. I can’t wait to unleash Beth and Gina on the world. Run for your lives.”
There’s no word on whether any other cast members from “The Heat” will make the jump to the sequel, but here’s hoping that moviegoers will get to see more of McCarthy’s kooky Boston family.
“The Heat” was released earlier this year, garnering nearly $160 million in the United States alone, according to Box Office Mojo.
