Pop hitmakers Daryl Hall & John Oates and Chic have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's class of 2014.

Chic -- who's become hot again this year thanks to guitarist Nile Rogers' work on Daft Punk's new album "Random Access Memories" -- has been nominated for induction several times, while this marks Hall & Oates' first appearance on the ballot.

The duo, which had 34 Billboard Hot 100 hits and is in the Songwriter`s Hall of Fame, has long been championed by fans, including syndicated talk/cooking show host Rachael Ray.

"That was really very sweet of her," John Oates once told us. "I don't think she'll be successful, but we really appreciate that kind of love and support."

The other nominees on this year's Rock Hall shortlist include modern rockers Nirvana and the Replacements, a cadre of classic rockers -- Kiss, Deep Purple, Yes, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Peter Gabriel, the Zombies, Link Wray, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band -- New Orleans funk legends the Meters and rappers LL Cool J ("NCIS: LA") and N.W.A.

The final inductees will be voted on by 600 music industry professionals, while vans have a say via www.rockhall.com/vote.

The Class of 2014 will be announced in January, with the induction ceremony scheduled for April in New York City; HBO will film the event and broadcast an edited version in May.
