Fresh off the show’s fourth consecutive Outstanding Comedy Emmy win, a spinoff is in the works for ABC’s “Modern Family.”
“Deadline” reports that the network is moving forward on a possible offshoot to the hit comedy series, with several options in the mix.
One of those options centers on guest star Rob Riggle, who appeared on two episodes last season of Phil Dunphy’s (Ty Burrell) overconfident real estate nemesis, Gil Thorpe.
Though the other plans being discussed were not revealed, it’s unlikely that any spinoff ideas would involve writing out any of the show’s core players.
It’s no surprise that ABC would be interested in spinning off one of their most successful shows. In addition to its high ratings, this fall the series began airing in syndication on USA, which reportedly paid more than $1 million per episode for the show.
“Modern Family” airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC and weeknights at 8pm on USA. What do you think of the spinoff plans?
