They say that there’s no such thing as bad publicity, but we’re not sure “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star Melissa Gorga would agree right now.
The wife and mother recently released her book, “Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage,” and the press around the book has been less than positive, particularly an article by Jezebel’s Tracie Egan Morrissey titled “‘Real Housewife’ Melissa Gorga’s New Book Advocates Marital Rape.”
The primary passage in question was written by Melissa’s husband, Joe Gorga, who writes:
“Men, I know you think your woman isn’t the type who wants to be taken. But trust me, she is. Every girl wants to get her hair pulled once in a while. If your wife says ‘no,’ turn her around, and rip her clothes off. She wants to be dominated.”
The piece notes a number of the reality star’s own words in her book as well, stating that it’s “difficult to believe that her book is anything but a cry for help.”
Now Melissa is responding to the controversy in a lengthy post on her Housewives blog, writing, “At first, I was upset that website accused me and Joe of horrible, disgusting things… It’s about a man being a man, a woman being a woman, a man taking charge and a woman letting it happen – consensually!”
