Though it came down to the wire, ABC has renewed its summer series “Mistresses” for season 2.

The series stars Alyssa Milano alongside Yunjin Kim (“Lost”), Rochelle Aytes and Jes Maccallan as four friends who get caught up in a great deal of soapy drama.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” the ratings for “Mistresses” were modest, but it did rank as the second highest-rated scripted series of the summer behind “Under the Dome,” which at one point was its time-slot competitor.

ABC has not revealed the episode order for the show’s second season or a target premiere date, but next summer is a good bet.

The first season ended on a number of cliffhangers, with pregnant Savi (Milano) flatlining in the hospital after a car crash, Karen (Kim) on the wrong side of a gun at the hands of Elizabeth Grey (Penelope Ann Miller) and April’s (Aytes) husband disappearing again.

Are you excited to see “Mistresses” return? Will Savi and her baby survive the accident? Can Karen’s showdown with her late lover’s unstable wife resolve itself without anyone getting hurt?
