Hollywood is going back to the well with a newly-announced film adaptation of John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden.”
What’s more, “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross has already signed on to helm the project, according to Deadline.
The book will be split into two films, and he will get to direct Jennifer Lawrence again as well.
The book, which of course was adapted into the classic James Dean-starring film in 1955, is a riff on the biblical story of Cain and Abel and follows the brothers living on a farm in Salinas, California.
Lawrence is set to play Cathy Ames, who is described as “the cold and cruel mother of the boys and estranged wife of the farmer.”
No release date has been set for the project as of yet, and it’s unlikely that filming will get under way before 2014.
Are you excited to see an “East of Eden” reboot, or is there no way it can live up to the original film with James Dean, Julie Harris and Burl Ives?
