This fall, Jason Statham will get to show off his softer side in “Homefront.”

Though he’s not leaving his action hero days behind, Statham plays an ex-DEA agent whose fighting skills come in handy when he must defend his daughter (newcomer Izabela Vidovic) from the criminals in his town.

“I’ve done certain kind of roles up to now, and this is different from the usual tough-guy role, who does not show a lot of emotion and is mostly action,” Statham tells “USA Today.” “In this film you get to see the lighter side of me. Yet there is still the tough-guy element.”

James Franco is shaking things up in his career once again, playing Gator, a local crime boss in the upcoming action flick.

Statham also had nice things to say about Franco’s performance, explain that the star has the “ability to bring out the quirkiness and eerie side to this character… he brought an interesting slice to the bad-guy role.”

The film also stars Winona Ryder as a former biker and Kate Bosworth (“Straw Dogs”) as the troubled sister of Franco’s character.

“Homefront” will be released on November 27. What did you think of the preview?
