The Swedish duo Icona Pop has followed up its smash "I Love It" with "All Night," which is currently climbing charts around the world and is helping to build anticipation for the September 20 release of the group's new album, "This Is...."
The group's Caroline Hjelt tells us that "All Night" seemed like a perfect introduction to the album:
"Oh, we love that song. It means so much to us...You know, it fills me up with this euphoric feeling, and it's basically, you know, you want to stay in that feeling -- We can do this all night, you don't want it to end, you feel like there's nothing you can't do. Everything is just possible. You know when you have those nights -- it can be with the one you love or your best friends -- and that freedom feeling, like you have the choice to do whatever you want to do."
One interesting feature of the song is a loop of a crowd chanting the title, which Hjelt says was actually recorded live during March in Austin, Texas:
"We actually have the crowd singing 'All Night' and it's in the background and we did that at South By Southwest and we were like, 'OK everyone, can you sing this next verse and you'll be on our next song and we will remember this show forever?'...And it's on there. You can hear it on the track. It's like, 'All night! All night!' So we looped it in the background, and stuff like that makes it so fun."
Icona Pop is currently on its first headline tour of North America, which runs through September and features appearances at MusicFest NW on September 4 in Portland, Ore., and at the St. Jerome's Laneway Festival on September 14 in Rochester Hills.
