Though is seemed like a sign of good health that Valerie Harper has reportedly signed on for season 17 of “Dancing with the Stars,” the actress’s doctor says there might be even better news to come.
In an interview with “TODAY” Thursday morning, the “Rhoda” star’s oncologist, Dr. Jeremy Rudnick, says, “I’d say we’re getting pretty close to a remission.”
Though Rudnick says this development will extend her life expectancy and “defies the odds,” he makes it clear that Harper is not cured.
Still, Harper is clearly overjoyed by the news, adding that while before they were looking at her having three months to live, “We’re looking at Christmas!”
Since her diagnosis, the actress has filmed an upcoming appearance on “Hot in Cleveland” with former co-stars Mary Tyler Moore and Cloris Leachman, starred a TV movie and published a memoir.
Though the new cast of the hit ABC dancing competition series won’t be announced until Wednesday, September 4, coincidentally the day her “Hot in Cleveland” episode airs on TV Land, Harper is expected to be one of the competitors.
An hour-long documentary chronicling Harper’s cancer battle is also set to air September 19 at 10pm on NBC.
