The first trailer for the highly-anticipated “Divergent” debuted last night.
Just before the MTV Video Music Awards were set to begin, the film’s stars, Shailene Woodley and Theo James, unveiled the preview right from the red carpet.
According to CBS News, the movie follows Tris (Woodley), a girl living in a dystopian future where people are split into groups based on certain characteristics.
Tris gets caught up in a plot to kill all of Divergents – anyone who does not fit into one of those categories – a label that fits her all too well.
As seen in the trailer, Kate Winslet has an important role in “Divergent” as a seemingly-benevolent yet slightly sinister leader.
Zoe Kravitz (“X-Men: First Class”), Ashley Judd, Miles Teller (“Footloose”) and “Scandal” actor Tony Goldwyn also star.
The adaptation of the young adult series comes from Summit Entertainment, which is also responsible for the multi-billion dollar “Twilight” franchise.
“Divergent” hits theaters on March 21, 2014.
