In what is sure to be one of the most controversial casting decisions of the past few years, Ben Affleck has been cast for the role of Batman in the upcoming “Man of Steel” sequel.

With Henry Cavill reprising his role of Superman from the first installment, the iconic superheroes will face off before taking on a more pressing adversary.

“[Ben] has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” director Zack Snyder said in a statement.

According to NBC News, the studio also confirmed that Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane will return for the sequel.

The unnamed villain for the sequel has not been officially announced, though Superman’s legendary nemesis, Lex Luthor, with “Breaking Bad” star Brian Cranston rumored for the part.
