Despite saying goodbye to “American Idol” after 12 seasons in May, Randy Jackson might not be going anywhere.
TVLine reports that Jackson might return to the series in a new role, replacing Jimmy Iovine as the “in-house” mentor to the stars.
Of course, Jackson was the last remaining original “Idol” judge, though he announced that he was leaving along with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey after season 12.
This is the latest in a string of rumors about who’s in and who’s out on the judging panel. Black Eyed Peas leader will.i.am. turned down the gig in favor of returning to “The Voice U.K.”
Music producer Dr. Luke is reportedly in talks to join Keith Urban and the almost-certain return of Jennifer Lopez.
Other stars who were allegedly offered the job are Kanye West, who feared the role was too “mainstream,” and Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has a romantic history with Lopez.
Casting for the new crop of singing contestants will get underway, as “American Idol” is set to return in early 2014.
