On the heels of the announcement that Superman will face off with Batman in the “Man of Steel” sequel, speculation is rising as to who will play the Caped Crusader in the upcoming superhero flick.
Sources tell “The Hollywood Reporter” that the top two contenders right now are Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling.
While “True Grit” star Brolin is topping the list, a Warner Bros. source tells “THR” that casting hasn’t yet begun, so this could mean nothing. Gosling, meanwhile, is the youngest name on the list, but his success in recent films like “The Place Beyond the Pines” and “Only God Forgives” proving that he can go dark.
The studio, which has been looking for an actor to replace Christian Bale after he bowed out from the role after starring in the “Dark Knight” trilogy, is also said to be considering Matthew Goode (“Watchmen”), Richard Armitage (“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”), Max Martini (“Revenge”) and “True Blood” hunk Joe Manganiello.
The as-yet-untitled sequel will likely shoot early next year for a release in 2015. Click through our gallery of actors on the short list and cast your votes in the comments below!
