After it was announced Friday that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s newborn son, Prince George, would be christened, speculation is mounting as to who will be chosen for the honor of being godparents to the future king.
According to Hello! Online, the royal babe will likely have six godparents in total, as 31-year-old William himself had six godparents.
While William’s brother, Prince Harry, and Kate’s sister, Pippa Middleton, considered certainties, James Middleton, Kate and Pippa’s little brother, and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, were also cited as possibilities to fill the role.
Tiggy Pettier, the royal nanny to Princes Harry and William who took care of the boys after their parents’ divorce, as well as William’s best friend from childhood, Thomas van Straubenzee, were suggested as well.
Also rumored to be in the running is someone from the Greek royal family. Former King of Greece Constantine II is William’s godfather, and in turn, William is a godparent of Constantine’s grandson, so it makes sense to keep the royal tradition alive.
A date for Prince George’s upcoming baptism has not yet been announced. Who do you think should be the prince's godparents?
