Legendary character actor Dennis Farina has passed away at age 69.

The Associated Press broke the news of the “Saving Private Ryan” actor's death earlier today.

A rep for the late actor, Lori De Waal, told the AP that Farina died this morning from a blood clot in his lung at a Scottsdale, Arizona hospital.

Farina starred in HBO’s “Luck” last year and spent two seasons playing Detective Joe Fontana on “Law & Order.” Most recently, he guest starred on FOX’s “New Girl.”

Jake Johnson, who plays Farina’s son Nick on the hit comedy series, tweeted about his death:

Farina was a Chicago cop before turning to acting in his 30s. For the latest news on Farina straight from the AP, follow them on Twitter @AP.
