Though “Divergent” won’t be released until next spring, it’s never too early to get scoop on a film that is being called the next “Twilight” franchise.
The buzzworthy film is midway through shooting, and MTV News hit the “Divergent” set to get the low-down on the upcoming film, which is due out next spring and is based on the young adult bestselling series from author Veronica Roth.
The movie stars “The Descendents” star Shailene Woodley as Beatrice “Tris” Prior, a seemingly-average girl living in a fractured Chicago set in the near future.
Woodley, 21, explains that her character is unique because she doesn’t start off as a hero in any way.
“She’s not an action star, and I think that here is something really refreshing about bring a very normal adolescent to life in a way where she has to rise to the occasion and find her brave heart and be really courageous in situations where she doesn’t necessarily want to be,” she said.

Since no young adult film adaptation is complete without a little bit of romance, Woodley’s character will find a mentor and possibly something more in Four, played by British actor Theo James (CBS’s “Golden Boy).
Tris meets Four at a critical time, after leaving her family and for an adventure in unfamiliar territory. Though Four is resistant to becoming a leader, the two find common ground and discover that they might be able to change their civilization if they work together.
“The chemistry is pivotal but also needs to be natural and real, and I think that’s something we stumbled upon quite easily,” James said of their on-screen relationship. “It was just there.”
Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, “Scandal” star Tony Goldwyn and Zoe Kravitz (“X-Men: First Class”) also star. “Divergent” is set to be released on March 21, 2014.
