Less than a week after Elisabeth Hasselbeck left “The View,” the show has named her successor: Jenny McCarthy.
The funny lady, who was rumored to be in consideration for the job, will join Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters and Sherri Shepherd on the daytime talker when the show enters its 17th season in September, ABC News reports.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be joining Barbara and the other amazing women at the table,” she said. “I look forward to helping make hot topics a little bit hotter, and showing my mom that my interrupting skills have finally paid off.”
Walters, the show’s creator and co-host, also released a statement welcoming McCarthy into the fold.
“We are delighted that Jenny will be joining us as a permanent co-host on ‘The View’ starting in September,” she said. “Jenny brings us intelligence as well as warmth and humor. She can be serious and outrageous. She has connected with our audience and offers a fresh point.
McCarthy has previously co-hosted the show eight times and has hosted her own short-lived VH1 talk show earlier this year. She has also written several best-selling non-fiction books.
Follow Jenny on Twitter @JennyMcCarthy or catch her on ABC’s “The View,” weekday mornings beginning this fall.
